Magic Mirror

I am absolutely obsessed with AI images as a mirror for culture. Generative AI tries to replicate images it has already seen, so it is a perfect way to get feedback on what it assumes we want to see, how commercial images have been crafted in the past, and how bias in the training data has shaped and will shape our visual reality going forward. I try to use prompts with as few details as possible so that the AI can fill in its assumptions about what style or details it should include to please me.

I can craft realities that have not existed but may plausibly exist. The Magic Mirror can show me a past that exists only in dreams and fantasy.
