Let the Internet Magic Flow
Old and New
On the Internet, old movies can feel prophetic. Why bother creating new content when the 20th century still speaks so loudly?
On the other hand, niche commentators are dropping new, creative ideas that the world doesn’t seem ready for yet.
This tug-of-war with time is a core feature of Internet Magic.
“Psychedelically speaking, I am talking about, the Power.”
— Lorenzo St. Dubois
Making sense (?) of the chaos
You know something is Internet magic when it directly confronts the absurdity and surreal nature of reality that permeates modern life. When your boss can fire you for not posting enough relatable memes, sometimes absurdity is the only thing that makes sense anymore.
DIY Whimsy
Individual creators are proving that their own passionate visions for fashion, makeup, style, music, and culture are much more forward-thinking and provocative than those being produced by big labels and studios. In fact, traditional media is running to catch up with teens who have cameras in their bedrooms. And often the vision of the future is more gorgeous and whimsical than big brands could have dreamed up anyway.
A Return to Analog
Internet Magic doesn’t just mean the creation of new things, it’s also the contextualization of old media too. Analog media takes on a whole new aesthetic when it’s been dredged up alongside an infinite scroll of YouTube videos. And perspectives on old celebrities and companies also change as their impact or reputation in our current society has changed. Our post-modern lens makes everything feel fresh and strange again.
The cacophony of broken infrastructure, AI-generated content, and people feeling their feelings make browsing the Internet increasingly surreal.
